PBCHRC Foundation Launches the Scott Velozo Graphic Design Scholarship

July 25, 2026

For decades, the Palm Beach County Human Rights Council (PBCHRC) has believed that education has the power to transform lives. Through the PBCHRC Charitable Foundation, we have invested in the future of LGBTQ+ and allied students by awarding more than $50,000 in scholarships to over three dozen deserving students pursuing higher education.

Today, we are proud to build on that legacy with the introduction of the Scott Velozo Graphic Design Scholarship—a new scholarship dedicated to supporting LGBTQ+ and allied students from Palm Beach County who are pursuing a degree in graphic design.

The scholarship honors Scott Velozo, an award-winning designer whose creativity, generosity, and decades of service have made an extraordinary impact on our community. A graduate of the Art Institute of Boston, Scott enjoyed a distinguished career with The Palm Beach Post while devoting countless hours to nonprofit organizations throughout Palm Beach County as a board member, committee member, volunteer, and event chair.

Over the years, Scott has donated his remarkable talents by designing hundreds of invitations, event programs, fundraising campaigns, and promotional materials that have helped local charities raise millions of dollars and tell their stories with creativity and style. His artistic vision, professionalism, and commitment to community service have earned him widespread respect and numerous awards.

The Scott Velozo Graphic Design Scholarship seeks to recognize students who share Scott's passion for visual communication and creative excellence. Ideal applicants will possess curiosity about the world around them, an original artistic perspective, and a talent for bringing ideas to life through graphic design.

Applicants should demonstrate skills in areas such as computer-aided design, illustration, logo design, typography, branding, photography, and visual storytelling.

"We are deeply grateful for the extraordinary contributions Scott Velozo has made to PBCHRC and so many other nonprofit organizations," said Rand Hoch, PBCHRC President and Founder. "Scott has been a creative force, a dedicated community leader, and a cherished member of our local LGBTQ+ community. We hope this scholarship inspires the next generation of graphic designers to use their talents to make a difference."

"Our commitment to expanding educational opportunities for LGBTQ+ and allied students is more important than ever," said Jasmin Lewis, Chair of the PBCHRC Charitable Foundation Scholarship Committee. "This scholarship not only recognizes Scott's remarkable legacy, but also invests in students whose creativity will help shape the future."

LGBTQ+ and allied college students from Palm Beach County who are pursuing a degree in graphic design or graphic arts are encouraged to apply.
